Description
The 75 × 38mm hardwood rail is the heavy-duty counterpart to the standard pine bottom rail. Harder, denser, and resistant to warping, splitting, and long-term decay — it’s the correct rail to pair with hardwood posts and palings, and a genuine upgrade for any pine fence where longevity is the priority.
Treated to H3 Hazard Class with CCA preservative. Hardwood naturally has better durability credentials than pine; the CCA treatment adds further protection against fungal decay and insect attack for an above-ground outdoor application that stands up to the Australian climate.
Pine vs Hardwood Rails
Pine rails are lighter and more affordable — fine for standard residential fencing. Hardwood rails are considerably heavier and harder to work with power tools (use sharp, carbide-tipped blades), but they can be more resistant to bowing, warping, and splitting over the long term. For a hardwood fence, use hardwood rails throughout. For a pine fence where you want better-performing rails, switching to hardwood is a cost-effective upgrade.
